“Mom, why do you think ghosts are intrinsically evil?”
“It’s what the science says, of course!”
“No, I mean like, what were the studies? What did they actually observe”
“Ohh, I get what you mean, Danny! Well across all reputable reports of encounters with the ghosts strong enough to matter, they’ve always attacked first and never responded to attempts at communication! There’s no reason for them to do that if they’re not evil!”
“Huh…”
…
Danny, learning about Ghost Speak and how humans can’t understand it: hmm.
Danny, learning that ghosts greet each other and bond by fighting: hmmm.
#danny phantom#dp#my idea of ghost speak is that it’s a language inherent to all ghosts#but that ghosts can still learn/speak other languages if they want#so like danny can communicate with any ghost in ghost speak#but like if. say. tucker wanted to talk to a ghost. that ghost would need to speak english#and danny hadn’t noticed that restriction in others before since he’d never seen a ghost who didn’t speak english converse with a human#danny phantom prompt#dp prompt#good fenton parents#well their quality is not specifically shown here but like#i’m justifying their views on ghosts with a genuinely plausible misunderstanding#if the past encounters had a language barrier and the ghosts defaulted to saying hi by attacking. yeah no shit humans got wary of them.#not specifically dpxdc but ghosts fighting to bond has showed up in a good number of those stories so i’ll add a couple of those tags too#dp x dc#dpxdc#dc x dp#dcxdp

not to be controversial on main, but i really do feel like way more people would enjoy maths if someone properly explained it to them & they didn't have a hanging threat of failing an exam above their heads
#it's genuinely so nice to try mathematics outside of academic setting!#look at me solving numbers' wee riddles three! they are speaking to me!!!!!#it's like being a detective in the world of formulas. liek evolution. like constant battke of survival#everytime you learnt a new tactic to solve a problem. another obstacle appears#me and math are locked in eternal dance where we fight like enemies yet are unable to live without each other like lovers#there's no math without mind being able to percieve. and there's no seeing reality without perceiving maths#AND NUMBERS ARE. EVERYWHERE#don't get me wrong i'm not an analytical kinda person. i was always the english & biology type of kid and physics was my enemy in school#BUT IF YOU LOOK AT IT RIGHT. YOU TOO CAN LEARN TO APPRECIATE MATH#math#ramblings

Brain worms struck a nerve once more...
Just? Baby Dick, he is just so smol and full of hate.
I am just imagining this small 9 year old, taking on full aged adults and winning, then turning around and grinning like the devil at the remaining crooks
I just think Gotham Twitter would be like
Gothamite 1: Robin 4 is such angy, most stabby boy
Gothamite 2: He isn't even angry??? Like that boy is just autistic, I talked to him about proper pet care for like 45 minutes after getting mugged, Bats had a fucking 1000 mile stare.
Gothamite 3: If you want real angry Robin, you need to look at n.1 or @ Realwing. I was a goon for a bit out of collage, he broke 3 ribs and my collar bone by pushing me down the stairs and then jumping on me.
Gothamite 1: Can't see it, Nightwing is too pure.
Gothamite 2: He has fucking killed/brutally maimed people? Parasocial much??
And like, also more on Baby Dickie...that boy did not speak English as his main language until he came to live with Bruce, Halys circus tours in Europe mostly? Give me little Dickie just looking at Bruce with uncomprehending eyes as the man tries to explain that Dickie will be living with him.
Give me baby Dick with the cutest thick French accent as a boy (side note, have you seen children speak French? It's so fucking cute, they sound so fancy but still so very baby) Like I feel like he spoke a hodgepodge of languages with the carnies? Maybe that carries over to his Robin ages.
Robin, running up to Batman, cycling through 5 different languages and two dialects, then just holds out a frog to Bruce expectantly.
Bruce, who missed about every 3rd word and had to translate French, then German, then Portuguese and then Romani to English in a matter of seconds, "Yes...You may keep it."
Dick, giving Bruce a very concerned look, then to the frog, then to Bruce again "You...want to... to own it? Is it not...giftig? ruim para comer? " Groaning he flaps his hand trying to think of the right word, "Does not...work well with me? Make feel bad? Is sick?"
Bruce nodded slowly, "Poisonous or toxic is the word you are looking for Chum, no its just a cane Toad, Ce n'est pas toxique, c'est sans danger."
(Dickie does keep the toad, His name is Herr Haly and he lived very well in the gardens, he died not long after Jason came around)
Later when Dick went to do Teen Titans, the reason Starfires English is kinda messed up is because Dicks brain is hardwired for like four other things, and English was just the one she was looking for, he mentally translates every word from another language to English, so the grammar is a bit rough some times.
#batman#batfam#Dick grayson thoughts#Little baby man Dickie#Robin number 1 is the true Angry Robin#he was brutal#and so cute#hc Dickie not speaking english as his primarily language#he still struggles with it as an adult#the media had a field day when he was introduced#Vicky vale learnt french just to talk to him#only to be one upped by out of town journalist Clark Kent who knew both french and spanish#(they were both offered at Smallsvill high and he needed the credits)#(que Bruce catching feeling for the man thst seems to put in effort to speak to his son in a way that is comfeotable for him)#teen titans (mentioned)#starfire really chose the worst one to learn english from

o tanadrin, normal politics understander, i'm an american with a german mother (finally applied for my first german passport last month but i'm told processing times are around 3mo, hoping it gets through alright because I would really love to have an EU passport right about now). i'm not a doomer, the current state of affairs enrages me and makes me want to act more than wallow, but by god it's getting really bleak out here. is there any barometer you would look to for a time-to-flee-the-country alert? besides the presidential statement that anyone can and will be sent to a death camp in el salvadore on a whim
you do not need my permission or anyone else's to move countries if you want to (aside from the relevant immigration authorities i mean. you definitely need their permission). if you've got an easy route to an EU passport your main obstacles are just gonna be the usual things that are impediments to moving like how much it costs and finding a job and maybe the language a bit if you're not fluent (and especially if you move to a city without a big anglophone immigrant community).
i have no special insights here about what you "should" do. i come from a long line of people on both sides of my family who for the last several centuries have had the habit of fucking off to new places whenever the fancy took them, and am in general in favor of people spending at least a little time living overseas if they can bc it's an interesting and character-building experience. i will say you should be clear-eyed about the difficulties. money, jobs, language. also just the alienating effect moving to a new place where you don't know anybody can have. but you gotta weigh that against your personal feelings about staying put, how safe you feel, and your ability to maintain your current standard of living where you are.
#you can still vote in federal elections from overseas too btw#and of course if you have an eu passport you can always move to an english-speaking country like ireland#or to any number of big cities with large english-speaking communities like berlin#and while language learning as an adult can be hard and requires deliberate effort#it is by no means impossible#i would say in fact it's something anyone can do given enough time and effort#(the hard part is forcing yourself to put in the effort)#us politics

interesting ideas about AI art and by no means am I trying to send hate but I believe majority of people hate AI art is because it's truly just the byproduct of a giant plinko board bouncing through pieces of art made by artists who put love and care and SOUL into their work. A visual product of a math formula. While it's "art" in the most litteral sense, not having a true human behind it putting though and effort into its every detail, for many people (myself included) devalues it from a tradition artists work.
I'm a firm believer in the idea that AI art is inherently unequal to non Ai art, specifically for this reason. (Hope this made sense sorry if it's incoherent)
I agree in that sense there. I personally do not find myself wanting to engage in a work when I purposefully know the creator had used AI to create the entire product. Something something,,,I cannot find myself getting invested in something that is little more than a product. I don't wanna read a fic about my blorbos when it was written by Chat-GPT
I also agree with the idea that a lot of people hate AI art because of this heavily emotional, debatably reactionary mindset that stems from one thing: fairness. It's the same sort of emotion I find one gets if all of the work on a group project gets shafted onto them whilst their fellow peers sit idly by. It feels unfair to sink hours into your craft, spending all this time fighting to develop your skills and flourish as an artist, only to see someone type half a paragraph and have a machine spit back something that looks not half bad. Let's be honest with ourselves here and say that AI art, at least in a visual regard, has progressed quite a bit to the point where most of the mistakes people find can be dismissed as wonky perspective and the line art being a bit fucky, which is something a ton of artists struggle with too
People develop a sort of a superiority complex over it. I can't blame them honestly. A number of times I've felt it too when people tell me they're using Chat-GPT as though it were Google and when I see my family members and friends playing around with AI art. I gotta bite my tongue and choke back a chortle, both because it's kind of a dick move and also because I don't want to relish in this feeling. It's infectious though to feel as though you have an edge over another person just because you abstain from using Chat-GPT or whatever. Not to be all "grrgrgrr you should LOVE Chat-GPT and if you dare to say anything bad then you are EVILL!!" of course though. It's emotions. They're messy, intense, and oftentimes you don't really realize when you're feeling since you get locked into your perspective. Yet, I think it's important to realize a lot of hatred of this generative AI stems from emotions. Reactionary ideals and claims stem from emotions after all
I think ultimately what the conversation about generative AI should revolve around is about the concerns of labour. The several strikes from a while back from VFX artists and scriptwriters come to mind. They are most at stake from generative AI as tools like Chat-GPT are cheaper and more cost-effective than paying an actual employee for their time and effort. I would also mention the environmental issues, but if we were to talk about that we would also have to acknowledge the fact that so, so much water is being used up daily to generate power for servers. Hell, this post alone will probably contribute to drying up some marsh in the greater scheme of things
Anywho yada yada TL;DR: I agree yes but I also think it's important to recognize that a good chunk of your hatred to Chat-GPT stems from feeling cheated and a sense of pride and superiority over others for simply not using it. There is no quality to Chat-GPT that makes it inherently evil. I can't get upset at my grandma for sending me a photo of her and her dog that went through an AI anime filter. I can feel maybe some exhaustion when seeing a fellow classmate using Chat-GPT to write their essay, but ultimately I write my own work for the love of the game. I can get upset however at those in higher power who use it to push artists out of jobs. Chat-GPT is a tool that has its pros and cons and I think it's reductive to just basically sit there and hiss like a vampire when presented with a cross when faced with the mere word "AI", especially when your only big argument for disliking it is based purely in feeling cheated when someone types a prompt into a program and art that would've taken you seven hours to draw gets spit out in about a minute or two
#sp-rambles#Not to mention there's nuance to be had when discussing students and employees using AI to do menial tasks#I'd rather students use something like Wolramalpha or whatever to do their math homework as Chat-GPT is functionally useless#I've seen it straight-up make up proofs and just do shitty math that SEEMS right on the surface but is meaningless when actually applied#And I also would hope that a student would write the damn essay instead of handing it off to Chat-GPT#As essays (in particular crit lit ones) are designed so you show the capacity to analyze and think about ideas presented to you#But ultimately I think Chat-GPT is seen as a release from these things since let's be real it is pretty agonizing to do homework at times#It's a convenient solution that encourages a person not to participate and learn but to hand off their work onto a tool#It provides respite. It saves one from restless nights and staying awake till the morning churning out a barely comprehensive paper#Once more I do not like generative AI. I don't use Chat-GPT#I think it is only important to see the other side. To comprehend why a person may do things and to recognize your own short-comings#For example I've interacted with a number of international students who have said they use Chat-GPT or other generative AI to help study#because English is their second language and they can't afford to sit there in agony trying to understand something in a unfamiliar languag#Not when their families back home are paying 20 grand a semester to help them get a degree and they also need a to work eight hours to live#There's a nuanced discussion to be had here other than generative AI good or bad#Anyways enough rambling I need to get back to mass reblogging sad white boy and yellow cloak man yaoi and watch YouTubers play video games#ask

now im learning. phoneme editing for english is fun as FUCK in sv2
#i am also discovering brand new bugs <3 mostly with inputting numbers into sliders/dials like the vocal modes and vibrato mod#if i input a number and click away without pressing enter first and i dont click perfectly on the right spot (notes panel)#the input wont be recorded. also if i input a number in a dial and click to a different note group without pressing enter first#the number will go to the second note group's dial but not the first#i need to do more tests. im beta testing your software kanru. whether you like it or not. im going to break ur software by the seams <3#anyway im having a lot of fun on a mo xu trial cover im working on thats in english#and its so much easier to play with vowels and consonant length and all that now with the phoneme panel#ive mentioned before i personally have very vowelly vowels and i drag out my consonants kinda long#so its neat being able to more easily match that pronunciation!#i will say a tip - if a vowel doesnt seem strong enough -> put a duplicate of it right next to it#like if you have the word bee. and its pronouncing it kinda like beehh like too lax#turn the phonemes from 'b iy' to b iy iy' and mess around with the durations of the two iy's until it sounds right#i have some kinda fucked up raised by 70s rural ontarian immigrants who learned english through tv sort of accent#and i WILL turn everything into a diphthong#i will turn your diphthongs into. triphthongs? quadriphthongs? i will do it#also helps with some consonants like ending r sounds in like for there etc#just put a second r? for some reason sounds better than making the one r's duration longer?#i am still having trouble with phoneme editing in japanese tho. doesnt seem to work as well? maybe i just need to play around more

Hi Kait, i hope youre having a good day/night when youre reading this!
I have been thinking about this for some time and I would love to hear your opinion about this : if Saeran's MC was male, would he experience some form of internalized homophobia? I'm assuming neither in the Minteye or at the Cathedral he has seen any type of same sex attraction or just any type of queer existence, so I wonder if this would later on make him feel like he is 'different'? Or would it make him hesitate to come out to Saeyoung or anyone in the RFA? Maybe if they're not being already treated like a couple as in canon, just seen as friends throught the AE? I know Saeyoung is queer and a lot of people (me included!) headcanon other members to be queer, if he had no knowledge of this, how would this realistically affect him?
That is quite the long ask, I'm sorry for that but I just love the way you analyse characters and how much you care about them. Also, if there's any mistakes or typos, please excuse that, english is not my first languege. Thank you so much
TW: Homophobia
That's an interesting question to think about. Would he experience some sort of internalized backlash?
Honestly, in my opinion, I don't think so. Internalized homophobia stems from being forced into a world that constantly hammers home that you're "bad" for not fitting the mold they want you to fit. If you're not taught or shown the bias these people experience, you're far less likely to experience any internalized shame. How can you feel bad or ashamed if you were never taught to feel that way? If you don't know about the bigotry, why would you ever feel bad?
Just speaking from experience here, I didn't begin to experience any shame or fear about my sexuality until I reached middle school and I had to deal with different kids slinging slurs at my head that I didn't understand and hadn't ever heard before. I didn't know what any of the words they were calling me meant, but I understood they thought those words were "bad" and used them to hurt my feelings because they didn't like me for one reason or another, and figured using those slurs would hurt me because "other" is bad.
I hadn't even figured my feelings out yet but people began to single me out and call me words I won't repeat. It took me until a little later to figure myself out but having kids pull my hair and call me slurs did not help. They made a journey that should've been safe for me into a difficult experience that made me fearful for my safety. Unlike other kids who were "allowed" to have crushes and experience all kinds of firsts, I felt singled out. Othered. I knew I would never be able to have a "normal" experience like teenagers did in the movies and it crushed me.
All because I wasn't straight. All because I was "different". The world makes young people feel like they're "wrong" if they don't fit these bullshit molds based around bigotry, homophobia, and misreadings of the bible used to further someone's hate agenda. The more you're forced to live in a society where you're told you're "wrong", the more you might start to feel horrible about who you are as a person and I'm angry we still live in a world that does this to young people. I'm angry it's happening to our trans family as we speak.
Kids are not born with biases. They are taught these biases at home, even if they don't understand them at first. Bigotry is TAUGHT and it comes from their guardians and the people around them who talk all about other people in monstrous ways in front of them. These things are normalized for the kids over time and they learn to be just as cruel as their guardians.
Saeran was not raised around these biases. He spent so much of his life locked up in a room with his twin brother where the world could not reach him. His life experience is so much more limited than the one his brother has experienced. Saeyoung got to experience a lot of the world because of the deal he made with the agency, and through that, he was able to learn more about his own sexuality!
He had the language he wouldn't have had before because he got to go out into the world and learn more about himself. I'm sure having a word for his bisexuality felt like such a relief. He had a word to finally describe his heart. I'm glad Saeyoung was able to get that even if he's the type of person who holds himself back when romance knocks so much of the time because he's self-sacrificial. But, it will never change the fact that he's bisexual and his MC could be anyone.
For Saeran, I've always imagined that he has fantasized about having a prince, princess, or a knight to come and save him. It felt as easy as breathing. He wasn't taught to believe otherwise. Nothing in his diary implied the cathedral he was attending was spewing homophobia at the front door! He went there for classes and to play in the gardens... and in my mind, was never exposed to people saying that it would be wrong to love more than just a princess. (I HC him biromantic demisexual, btw).
In fact, it's probably stranger for him to see someone be a bigot.
Why are you angry about someone loving another person? What's wrong with love? This isn't to say Saeran hasn't come across hate speech before. I'm sure in his time studying the RFA and more about the world they live in he's never been allowed to know, he's seen and encountered things he never expected to learn about otherwise. That could cover any subject. That could be any piece of information in this world. Bigots exist everywhere in this world, unfortunately, so it's not impossible to say Saeran's seen someone be cruel.
But, Saeran has a very kind, gentle heart. He has no reason to feel ashamed about who he loves or who other people love. It's people who bring hatred to the world that bothers him. Even if he did feel internalized shame, that shit would go out the window once he knew who he was and that his MC would always love him. Nothing will ever make him feel like he's wrong for being himself after he has the day of peace where he reclaims his sense of autonomy.
Bring on the fight if need be. He isn't afraid of fighting people who have wicked hearts. You will not tell him he can't be himself because you don't like it. He's already fought that battle his entire life. He can handle your nonsense and tell you to screw off if you think he's a bad person for loving his partner. He's kind to a fault but he will not put up with hatred. He's not a pushover.
I don't think he'd hesitate to tell the RFA that he's with his male MC romantically, either. The RFA is accepting. Contrary to what I see from bitter homophobes who think they have the "right" opinion on the RFA, the RFA is a found family that loves one another no matter what. If you're queer, you belong with them. It doesn't matter what you HC the RFA as specifically, at the end of the day, you being queer will not stop you from being a part of their family. You'll get support down to the letter. No hesitation.
The only bigotry I think you're going to encounter is from Saejoong Choi, but that's to be expected because he seems like the type as a noted conservative politician who prides himself on "family values". The game makes some of his politics and views pretty clear as you're playing through Another Story.
Oh, and another thing, just because people try to erase our existence as queer people by attempting to eradicate any mention of us being ourselves and simply existing doesn't mean they'll succeed. You can attempt to raise a child "far away" from queerness but that won't stop them from being queer if they are. Being queer is not a thing you just choose one day. We're born this way and there's nothing wrong with us. But! There is everything wrong with people who think we need to change to suit their bigotry. They're the ones that need to change.
You can try to withhold language and history from someone but that won't stop them from being who they are. Even if you don't have the words to describe what you're feeling, you'll know what you're feeling isn't what they're trying to sell you as "normal" and that can never be erased.
For Saeran, I can only imagine his heart breaking when he realizes how deep this world is coated in hatred but he will fight every day to be kind to counteract this hatred. That's his strength, after all. To be kind when the world says otherwise. That's his act of rebellion to the people who want him to lay down and die. No. He will choose to be kind and continue on his way because he deserves to be happy and alive, just as much as anyone else.
#tw homophobia#thank you for the ask though I appreciate that you put some thought into this#because I imagine some people might have a different view than I do on this#but you don't need to see something to know it exists#i knew i wasn't straight before i understood there were labels for things and words to describe these feelings#i just didn't have the language to describe it so that made it harder to figure things out#i figured it out eventually but the only reason i struggled is because we live in a bigoted society#also don't worry about the length anon i love answering long asks#also don't worry about your english either you did a good job!#learning a second language is tough and english is one of the most frustrating languages for a number of reasons#never apologize for your language! if you get lost just ask for clarification because kind compassionate people will be patient and help yo

Would Midnight be patient with my fellow discalculia girlies... I love her but am So So Pathologically Bad at math
Midnight teaches advanced algebra to cats, you'll be fine. She'll conjure up a fractal for you, color each part of the equation, show how each part interacts and what it looks like when you change it
She'll take you out to the beach and explain the wind and the tide, compare them to each axis on the formula she showed you, and modify one factor. The wind dies down and the sea becomes as smooth as glass.
"Smoothness for the-waves you-see?" She waits for you to nod, never rushing you along, even the most casual questions are genuine, "Excellent! For this is example of maths I-teach. Nature it-will-happen. Simpleness it-being. You-will-understand."
#Giant robot meme and person staring at it#Person says#''wow! There is beauty in every corner of life and all can be understood by learning the simple and complex sciences that govern existence!#Gun being shot up says ''math is incomprehensible magic''#I am also a dyscalculia girlie fhehdjdhd#Funfact a major reason I committed so hard to Clan counting being so convoluted is because I want the math girlies--#To be as confused with numbers as I always am <3#If I can't count you won't either that is a threat <3#I have noticed a recurring theme in my work (affectionate) is Weird Girl Who Does Math#This rework of Midnight is like... 1 example of at least 3 characters who use math for some magical purpose#And they are all girls#(And yes they smoke weed)#The other 3 are OCs though and it is always either a metaphor for magic or directly tied to something arcane in their universe#MATH SCARY (writes endlessly about math)#BB!Midnight#Better bones au#Also another side note she speaks Lakemew. Ancient Lakemew. Which is SVO ordered like English#So I write her in OSV order like Clanmew (and like her canonic cadence) in these examples where she's speaking Clanmew#But funny enough she would sound the most 'normal' to an english speaker

what is it about becoming an academic that makes you like bad poetry
#julia.txt#NUANCE : a generalization ofc#and VERY subjective To Me and what poetry i Like#i just like being dramatic#but for reals#i think that uni professors and academics are more likely to assign poems that are interesting because of Their Structure#rather than like. it Hits You. you know#way more likely to talk about oh isnt this structure clever see this reference here see this there#rather than. The Contents? if that makes sense#analyse de fond vs analyse de forme <- forgor the terms in english#AND IDK. my friend shows me the poems she gets assigned#and they all just feel. Empty to me. again very subjective but#sure the structure is interesting but is it Saying Anything. is it Actuslly anything beyond havimg this number of syllables in each third#line#idk man ❤️ peace and love on planet earth forever#more nuance: if you're learning about poetry in an academic setting it makes sense that theres emphasis on structure#and the self referential world surrounding poetry#but im sure theres poems that have those aspects without being bad ❤️ (to me. again)

Just whatever you feel to be the most accurate! He doesn't speak any that I know of in game so it's all headcanons I guess.
#sean macguire#my opinion that no one asked for:#he speaks a few phrases/some words. just stuff his da taught him to try to keep the language alive#donegal to my understanding had the highest population of irish speakers back then#which is still not a great number mostly bc of the english ruining everything#i imagine darragh knew some and sean only knew what darragh had time to teach him#also i do hc that darragh is originally from dublin which is why seans dublin accent is so strong#which had a lot fewer speakers but ALSO darragh seems like the kind to keep Ireland's culture alive so#of course his main focus was fucking over rich protestants ANYWAY I DIGRESS#sorry went in one of my darragh tangents#what were we talking about#oh yeah#darragh never got the chance to teach sean more than the fun phrases and insults he learned from him#because when sean was becoming older and supposed to be more responsible#his biggest role model was gunned down in his sleep#sometimes i cant talk about sean wothout talking about darragh im sorry 😔

once again thinking about the grinch and how they should've just left him alone
#feeling the cultural difference once again#which is weird because it's not quite december yet but#I think it's just the politics right now#very scary stuff really makes me remember that even though people are willing to interact with me#they assume that my culture is built on violence or vastly outdated or rudimentary#obviously media caters to the majority of the population but recent events really make me feel like I'm not supposed to be here#the widespread culture of the society we live in isn't one that I identify with#and there's always that subtle pressure of 'oh if you want to be included you need to be like us'#why do I have to alter my practices to have other people engage with me#and even if I were to assimilate I'd still be treated differently#I can't even remember the number of times people tried to convert my family or told me I shouldn't be dressing the way I do#and it's not even just strangers either#last year one of my close friends sent me a message on the fourth of july saying that it was nice I'm here even though 'it's not my place'#this isn't about 'modern ideas' by the way I feel like I should probably clarify that#last time I didn't and got anon hate because someone assumed I was talking about the lgbtq community which#no I support that this isn't about that#it's about the fact that people still ask me why I dress the way I do and get all angry when I say I'm not into christmas#it's about the fact that everyone knows christmas traditions but no one is willing to learn about holidays in other cultures#it's about how pushing christmas or st patricks day or the fourth of july is normal but me quietly celebrating my own holidays is 'wrong'#it's about how I was referred to as an 'it' in the public restrooms in middle school because white kids assumed I didn't know english#it's about going to the doctor's office and listening to someone speak slowly to me in case I don't understand#it's about people assuming I'm threatening someone when I speak in my own language on the phone#it's about random invasive checks at the airport that other people don't go through#vent#sorry it's just#frustrating

OK so, I actually taught myself English super young, thanks to basically living in English- speaking fandom spaces 24/7 (had no real friends outside of that, yikes).
Now I'm diving into a third language, and being in a non-English speaking country i get asked a lot about how i learned.
Here's my trick : Think in the language you're tackling.
Have your daily Inner monologues in that language instead of your mother tongue. But the secret sauce? Substitute words you don't know with English words or just make up nonsense that sounds like it could be from that language. Over time, as your brain learns new words it catches on, tosses the nonsense and replaces it with actual vocabulary, and suddenly, you're fluent. 🌟
No clue if there's any science behind this method, but it works for me. Language learning is personal and different methods click for different people but i hope this helps someone.
#I actually have many more tips but tbose are just the generic ones you usually get#Like watching movies or listening to music in that language#or downloading an app that nags you to practise for 5 mins a day (it adds up trust me)#But yeah this is my number one tip and i don't see it mentioned usually#languages#learning japanese#learning english#learning a new language
